This year our science teacher, Mr. Hebert, and Mrs. Lori Spivey took the 8th-10th grade GT students on an overnight camping trip to Enchanted Rock State National Area in Llano, Texas. Hudson’s 8th grade advanced science students also came with them. The main attraction and namesake of the park, Enchanted Rock, is a pink granite pluton that covers about 640 acres and rises 425 feet above the surrounding campsites. The kids on the trip got to hike up Enchanted Rock, explore caves, rock-climb up “Turkey Peak”, and have a dip in the Llano River.

Eagle Insider: Where have you worked before coming to Apple Springs?
Mr. Hebert: I have been teaching 8th grade at Hudson for the last 12 years. Prior to that I have taught at Alvin, Waco Midway, Little River/Academy and Conroe Oak Ridge Schools.
EI: What brought you here?
H: The friendly small town atmosphere of Apple Springs was a plus, but the top tier teacher and administrators were what drew me here initially.
EI: What can you tell us about your family? Do you have a wife or children?
H: I have a wonderful family that includes my wife Laura, who teaches at Angelina College, and two kids. My son, Lynn, attends Baylor University studying to be a teacher/coach. My daughter Missy is a sophomore at Hudson and enjoys running cross country and track.
EI: What do you like to do for fun outside of school?
H: I enjoy watching and supporting my kids and my students as they compete/perform in extracurricular activities. Also, I enjoy getting outdoors while fishing, hunting, or camping.
EI: Anything else you’d like to say?
H: I am so pleased to be a part of the Apple Springs family and truly appreciate how friendly and welcoming everyone has been.
EI: Thanks!! |
