Dear ASISD Parents/Guardians,
I hope the summer is going well for you and your family.
As you may be aware, the Texas Legislature recently passed House Bill 1481. Governor Abbott signed it and it is now state law. This law prohibits Texas public school students from having personal communication devices on school property. This includes cell phones, smart watches, AI glasses, earbuds, headphones, pagers, radios or any other device capable of transmitting or receiving communications.
Apple Springs ISD must comply with the new law. As of August 5, 2025, students will not be allowed to have cell phones or other devices referenced in the law on any school property during normal operational hours. Additionally, if a phone is confiscated from a student, ASISD is no longer at liberty to return the phone to the student at the end of the day. The phone can only be given to the parent or legal guardian.
We know this new law may seem counterintuitive in today’s technological society. However, we must all abide the laws of our state. I greatly appreciate you as the parent helping us to navigate these new waters. We will have more information for you as we approach the new school year but I wanted to give you time to begin discussing this change with your students.
Thank you very much.
Dr. Cody Moree
